Staff The Department of Hussman Institute has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Clinical Research Coordinator 1.
This position will focus on enrolling participants in our genetic studies of Alzheimer disease and related dementias.
The primary function of this job is to identify, recruit, and enroll individuals and families that may be eligible for our Alzheimer disease genetics projects.
Participants may be enrolled in a variety of context:
physician referral, community outreach events, online registries, etc.
Once initial contacts occur, the coordinator obtains consents, family/medical history, and collects biological samples and relevant clinical data.
The position will require travel throughout South Florida, as well as periodic travel throughout the United States.
In addition to these activities, this job requires organization of and participation in community outreach activities to increase awareness of and interest in genetic research among underserved populations.
The Clinical Research Coordinator is a member of the Section of Family and Patient Ascertainment within the John P.
Hussmann Institute for Human Genomics.
The Clinical Research Coordinator 1 serves as an entry level clinical research professional that has a basic foundation in clinical research through assigned responsibilities in data management or implementing clinical research protocols.
This role exhibits increased learned skills and flexibility in performing duties, and assumes responsibility for simple clinical research protocols and timelines.
JOB FUNCTIONS o Support genetics research studies by performing a variety of duties involved in the collection, compilation, documentation and analysis of clinical and genetic research data from study participants.
This position will focus on our genetic studies of Alzheimer disease.
o Organize, host, participate in community education, and outreach activities.
o Identify, recruit, and enroll families for our genetic studies of Alzheimer disease and related dementias.
o Schedule and enroll participants and family members.
o Coordinate and manage enrollment activities for respective studies.
This will entail setting up local and remote trips that will involve travel (including overnight travel).
This may require travel to participants in their homes or to medical clinics/hospitals.
o Collect biological samples per study protocols.
This will most frequently involve drawing blood or collecting saliva from participants.
o Collect data from patient charts, medical records, interviews, questionnaires, diagnostic tests and other sources; code, evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare appropriate documentation.
o Enter clinical and history data.
Assist in preparation of clinical data reports and analyses.
Use data management and analysis software, including programs for drawing human pedigrees, basic statistical software and query-based extraction of clinical and laboratory data from relational database.
o Function as a member of a multidisciplinary research team.
o Prepare and present ascertainment reports for the investigative team.
o Organize and manage the flow of information to and from participants and families; maintain contact information for families and participants; develop efficient strategies for following up with families on a regular basis.
o Participate in regular clinical meetings and staff training sessions.
o Ensure compliance with protocol guidelines and requirements of regulatory agencies; identify problems and/or inconsistencies and monitor patients' progress to include documentation and reporting of adverse events.
o Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
o Must be able to work with the diverse populations in South Florida (Spanish language proficiency recommended but not required).
o Performs chart review/pre-screening activities for study participant eligibility and coordination of simple clinical research protocols.
Maintains enrollment procedures according to the protocol.
o Coordinates routine activities of clinical studies including data collection and maintenance, planning study timelines, schedules appointments and study visits, meeting scheduling, and project evaluation.
o Performs moderate to complex research tests/ experiments and adapts procedures for quality improvement under supervision.
o Understands and follows technical instructions for operating clinical research equipment, problem solves when operational failures occur.
o Assists in observing and informing the PI/supervisor of adverse events, including those reported by study participants.
o Addresses adverse events per protocol, advocating for study participants and quality standards throughout the lifespan of the study.
o Identifies, reports, and helps problem solve protocol deviations and unanticipated occurrences.
o Follows the appropriate fundamental requirements of all international, national, and local regulatory bodies.
o Knows the contents and maintenance of study-specific clinical research regulatory binders.
o Maintains requisite skills and mandatory training in safety, equality, responsible conduct of research, continuing education, and research competencies.
o Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Bachelor's degree in relevant field required
