They are developing a highly specialized technology team that is comprised of Marine-based Infrastructure and IT Operations Infrastructure experts. What we are looking for:
Extreme Technologies is seeking a VMware Specialist with Network experience to support a unique international fiber optic telecom network. This network serves both scientific users as well as offshore commercial clientele. The qualified VMware Expert and Network Engineer will play a vital role in establishing and maintaining the network operations environment. Experience with VMware vSphere as the virtualization environment provider will be important to your success in this role. It will also be critical to have a deep understanding of network architecture in a Cisco environment.
The ideal VMware Specialist for this position must possess the ability to work in a smaller environment that will scale. This is a customer facing position and the appropriate candidate must possess excellent communications skills and experience working with clients.
Understand and administer information technology services running on virtualized Windows and Linux servers. VMware vSphere provides the virtualization environment. Services include domain controllers, the Solarwinds network management suite, and SQL server.
Understand the overall architecture and configuration of Cisco routers, firewalls and switches.
Have a working knowledge of Cisco IOS, routing protocols, IPSec, VPNs and firewall rules.
Respond to network faults, performance alerts and customer reports.
Identify and take appropriate corrective action in response to network events.
Monitor and manage network security and site access.
Monitor and manage network hardware and software components using the Solarwinds network management suite.
Present monthly network performance reports to customers.
Utilize a trouble ticketing process to manage routine network events.
Utilize a critical incident management process to manage service affecting events.
Utilize a change management process to implement adds, moves and changes to the network.
Assist in the management of third party contracts for materials and services.
Manage equipment inventory and spares.

Skills needed to be successful in this position:
Candidates MUST be VMware Certified Professional
Bachelors or Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecom Engineering, or Computer Science.
Prior experience working with VMware in an operations or infrastructure environment.
Prior experience in a data center or telecommunications operations environment.
VMware Certified Specialist (VCS) with expert knowledge of VMWare
Knowledge of working with VMware in coordination with Windows Server Professional, Solarwinds and Cisco Networking.
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or willingness to work toward acquiring CCNA within one year of employment.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Ability to use MS Office suite, including MS Project.
Able to travel within the U.S. and Europe on an infrequent basis.
Willing to be on-call 24x7 approximately one week per month.
Ability to reside permanently and work in the United States.
