DESCRIPTION
Inspects hazardous waste generators and sites to determine the potential to impact groundwater quality and biomedical waste generators, transporters and treatment facilities for compliance with current rules, regulations and permit conditions. Makes field interpretations and decisions on existing rules and regulations. Maintains records and updates information for database of regulated establishments for program management.
Reviews applications for proposed biomedical and hazardous waste facilities to determine compliance with Federal, State and local Regulations. Coordinates with local fire administrators and environmental agencies to develop and maintain a current list of all toxic and hazardous waste substances utilized in Palm Beach County. Maintain a permitting list of biomedical and hazardous waste generators in a designated geographic area of Palm Beach County through routine and annual inspections.
Investigates and report on all types of complaints involving hazardous waste and biomedical waste and conducts field investigations and sampling inspections when necessary; prepares both oral and written reports for enforcement actions. Has a need to know and have access to see only the Environmental Health Data Set and the following information: epidemiology reportable disease reports, physician reports, laboratory test results, epidemiology health investigations and records containing patient identifiers for environmental health hazardous waste investigations.
Job Requirements:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the physical sciences or natural sciences or engineering and two years of professional experience in environmental protection, regulation or health; one of the physical or natural sciences; or engineering.

Wear steel toe boots (provided by agency).

A valid driver's license and access to a private vehicle.
