Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) - Cardiac Catheterization Lab

The position is that of a Radiologic Technologist who has training in Interventional Angiography and Cardiac Catherization. The Technologist's principal responsibilities are to assist in Right and Left Heart catheterization, percutaneous coronary interventions, coronary stent placement, atherectomy, coronary flow evaluation, fluoroscopic imaging, intravascular coronary ultrasound, temporary and permanent pacemaker implantation, automated cardiovertor-defibrillator implantation, pulmonary artery catheter placement, pericardiocentesis, Aortic Stenosis cases, TEE, tilt table testing, and Electro cardioversions for the patients of this medical center. Additionally, will assist with procedure and scheduling flow of clinic appointments and obtaining vital signs, weights, scheduling appointments, and providing clarification of instructions given following the clinic appointment. Trained to correct deficiencies in digital reports and correct problems that block storage to the I-Site repository for all cardiology-imaging pictures. Competency is required including cardiac monitoring, extensive knowledge of specialized equipment to perform a variety of diagnostic and interventional angiographic procedures, complex vascular interventional and therapeutic procedures ( i.e. wires, guides, manifolds, stents, balloon pump, impella, IVUS, volcano), sterile technique, radiation safety, and in using sophisticated monitoring systems to document the case studies. The position requires fulfillment of a fair rotation in the on-call assignment. Specially trained in the performance of advanced invasive testing and radiological imaging to perform the following cardiac testing procedures:
Operate fluoroscopic equipment used in angiographic testing Measurement and analysis of cardiac electrocardiogram waveforms Application of oxygen therapy and analysis of pulse oximetric measurement Intravenous access for IV therapy Performance of non-invasive blood pressure measurements with identification of normal/abnormal values. Operation of a variety of specialized equipment including EKG recorders, pressure transducers intra-aortic balloon pumps, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), flow wires (FFR) portable transport monitors, ventricular assist devices (Impella), oxygen equipment, suction equipment. In addition to the basic requirements for appointment, the following criteria must be used when determining the appropriate grade assignment of candidates:
GS-8 DRT (Full Performance Level) (a) Experience. At least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level. (b) Assignments. Employees at this grade level serve as staff DRTs at the full performance level. Candidates at this grade level are to be qualified to provide services in specialized areas of radiologic technology and/or general radiologic technology services. (c) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
1. Ability to check system for operation and assess acceptable performance based on established guidelines; 2. Knowledge of calibration parameters and the ability to make adjustments as needed; 3. Knowledge of patient's clinical record, diagnosis, and laboratory results; 4. Ability to monitor patient's physiologic changes during the procedure and keep the radiologist informed; 5. Skill in using tact, diplomacy, and courtesy in dealings with the customer base, patients, staff, family, visitors, and volunteers; and 6. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and cross-sectional anatomy, recognizing unusual images, and determining proper positioning to best demonstrate areas of interest. References:
