Chief, Nutrition and Food (Dietitian)

Service Chief will have full responsibility for managing and supervising all phases of N&FS operations. The Chief has the ultimate responsibility for the practice and provision of nutritional care. Service Chief plans, develops, organizes, directs, manages, supervises, controls, implements and evaluates programs for the service. He/she will have overall responsibility to ensure proper coordination between care delivered by N&FS and the overall delivery of healthcare within the facility (facilities). The Chief is a member of the senior leadership team providing advice for integrated care programs for a diverse Veteran population with multiple diagnoses, and other needs. Assignments and duties include but are not limited to:
Establishes organizational structure and guidelines, performance standards, reporting requirements and defines the lines of authority and supervisory controls necessary and essential in carrying out the mission of the service. Oversees the coordination of policy and procedure for nutrition care of veterans in the continuum of care and in a multidisciplinary model. Assures that all policies and procedures are incompliance with VA manuals, Central Office Guidelines, N&FS program guides, VISN guides, professional guidelines and JCAHO standards. Assures the menu planning, subsistence purchases, production, and delivery of safe, high quality, nutritionally adequate meals. Provide final approval of food standards and menu cycle. Develops and directs a performance improvement program to continually monitor major functions of NFS for quality and appropriateness of nutritional care. Provides leadership to NFS, which consists of professional and non-professional staff. Provides direction and presents conclusions and recommendations to staff at departmental meetings. Provides leadership and guidance to ensure that all diverse activities of the staff are closely coordinated in order to achieve an effective integration of the key elements of patient care, education, training and research. Facilitates the development of service priorities which address the goals and objectives of the medical center, healthcare system and VISN. Coordinates service activities to accomplish identified priorities and ensure compliance with VHA directives and medical center policy/procedures to provide for customer satisfaction. Directs the technical, professional and administrative functions of the service through the assistant chief, clinical and administrative section chiefs. This requires the coordination and integration of research, technological advances and administrative changes within the service. Work Schedule:

Completed a didactic program in dietetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), formerly known as the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetic Education (CADE) Completed an ACEND accredited or approved supervised practice program. Supervised practice programs are post-baccalaureate degree programs that provide supervised practice experiences which meet the eligibility requirements and accreditation standards of ACEND, formally known as CADE. Completion of a coordinated program in dietetics fulfills the requirements of a supervised practice program. Time spent in a dietetic internship or supervised practice program does not qualify as creditable experience Individuals who have earned college and/or university degrees outside the United States and its territories also must have their transcripts evaluated by a foreign transcript evaluation service to determine if their degree is equivalent to a degree granted by a regionally accredited college or university in the United States. Validation of a foreign degree does not eliminate the need for verification of completion of didactic program, dietetic internship, or coordinated program requirements. The completion of ACEND didactic program requirements and at least a bachelor's degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college/university or foreign equivalent are necessary for eligibility to enter an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program. Registration/Certification. All applicants must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA). Advanced Level Practice Dietitians must possess a minimum of one advanced practice credential relevant to the area of practice, (e.g. Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC), Board Certified Specialist in Renal Nutrition (CSR), Board Certified Specialist in Gerontological Nutrition (CSG), Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE), or Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO)). Grade Determinations:
GS-14 Service Chief Experience. Completion of 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level. Assignment. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and range of variety, and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. Employees at this level serve as the chief of NFS at VA medical centers that are Complexity Level 1 (high complexity) facilities, and which are affiliated, tertiary care health care systems. The chief is involved in management planning to achieve medical center, VISN, and national goals. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSA designated by an asterisk 1. Ability to perform, under administrative direction, with wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment, work of unusual difficulty and responsibility. 2. Ability to plan and coordinate activities covering a broad range of nutrition and other programs. 3. Ability to serve as a recognized expert to provide authoritative advice and coordination of nutrition care programs that may encompass multiple medical centers, including consolidated facilities or departments. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
