Health Technician (MICU)

Secures the confidence and cooperation of patients during procedures. Sets up examination areas for various types of procedures. Obtains and prepares specialized equipment as well as routine supplies for those procedures. Prepares the patient and assists as needed. Receives and directs patients, answers routine inquiries and makes referrals. Assists patients in contacting volunteer or social services as needed. Receives and responds to a number of unclear inquiries from patients concerning a variety of medical, personnel, and administrative matters. Determines nature of inquiry and independently responds to all administrative questions. Expected to perform a wide variety of clinical tasks, such as:
Observe, report, and record general and specific physical and behavioral signs/symptoms of change in a patient's condition. Explains procedures, positions patients for desired results, and cushions and shields patients as appropriate. Sets up equipment, determines Technical Factors, and sets controls. Operates equipment and instruments. Adjusts and adapts specialized equipment for difficult procedures. Operates and monitors EKG equipment for both 12 and 15 leads. Teaches Patients Proper Health Care Practices:
Reinforces patient health and discharge education as directed by the Registered Nurse. Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note:

Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:

Physical Requirements:
The variety of duties reflects a variety of potential extended periods of sitting, walking, standing, carrying items, typing, writing, as well as lifting heavy, sometimes immobile patients. The incumbent is expected to utilize good body mechanics and have stamina to withstand a stressful environment. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
